Located within the city of Kochi, Willingdon island is the largest artificial island in India. Originally, a small natural island, Willingdon Island was constructed and built up using soil dredged from the surrounding Lake of Kochi in 1936. 

It now forms the base for the Port of Kochi as well as the Kochi Naval Base. It now allows for the city to form  widespread links with other searports around the world. It is now also well-renowned as a tourist centre, being the home for some of Kerala's best hotels and shopping areas. Surrounded by the calm Kerala backwaters, Willingdom island provides a serene base from which to explore the surrounding areas.
