We want to thank you for your patience over the last few months. We have been liaising with external visa agents and immigration officials, to ensure that you and your team were in India on the most appropriate visa for the Mental Health Placement. After our research, it is now our advice that you apply for an eTourist Visa (Electronic Tourist Visa; ETA).
As we fall under the umbrella of a ‘tour operator’ it is accurate for you to enter the country on this type of visa, providing you are not receiving a wage during your time with us or remaining on our placement for more than 30 days. This is also the same advice given by other volunteer organisations operating in India.
For the eTourist Visa, it is a simple online process, so you can start the application when you are ready. Simply follow the instructions below:
How to Apply
Please ensure that you have registered and applied for the appropriate visa online before you depart for the Mental Health Placement in India. You need to apply for an eTourist Visa online here.
All SLV.India Volunteers are responsible for obtaining their own visas. You can also find a of countries that are eligible for the ETA visa online process and a step by step guide to applying for the visa online by following this link.
The visa costs about £40-£100 depending on your nationality and country of origin. Please ensure your passport is valid for 6 months after your arrival date in India. If not you will be refused your visa.
You can only apply a maximum of 120 days and a minimum of 4 days before your arrival date in India, so please do not apply too early or too late. The ETA may only be obtained twice within each year and is only valid for a maximum period of 60 days from the date you land.
When you are filling in the eTourist visa application, under 'Visa Service' please select the 'eTourist Visa' option, and then select 'Recreation/Sightseeing'.
Please find below Reference name and address needed for your application:

What Happens Next?
Once you have submitted your application it can take approximately three working days for your visa to be processed. Please take a note of your ETA number on your Visa, and upload this to the relevant task on your SLV.Global Portal.
You'll be notified by email when it is approved, and then you can then log in to the website and download a copy of your visa, which will have your photo on it. Please then print out a copy of your visa.
You will need a printed copy of your visa at the airport in order to board your flight, so please double check you have this, as a copy on your phone is not enough.
