SLV.Global Placement: Mental Health Sri Lanka, June 2015
Mental Health Bali, June 2016
Current role: 'I just got a graduate job working in a residential children's home for young people in care - thanks to the skills and experiences I had gained while on placement with SLV.Global'
Tell us about your SLV.Global experience: 'SLV.Global opened my eyes to mental health issues and I gained a global sense of mental health. Crucially, it allowed me to be a part of changing stigma and equipping individuals with the skills to improve their lives for example, with English lessons.'
Tell us what you gained from the placement: 'The projects themselves are great to talk about in interviews. From my experience, it helped me stand out from the crowd and allowed me to embark on the next stage of my life. My employer was so impressed by my volunteering with SLV.Global I got the graduate job within hours.
My placements were truly life changing. I gained cultural intelligence and fully immersed myself in both Sri Lankan and Balinese ways of living. The experiences of running sessions, lesson planning, teaching English and taking part in the workshops gave me skills that will help me in my new graduate job working with young people in care. I now also have friends all over the world and memories that will stay with me forever. I truly do recommend SLV.Global, for personal and professional development.'
