SLV.Global Placement: Mental Health Placement, December 2014
Current role: Since my placement in Sri Lanka, I continued to work as an ABA (early intervention program for autism) Junior Therapist, I worked at a clinical psychology private practice as an intern and then I landed a job at a corporate psychology company, and have been here for nearly 2 years. Although I am not a fully registered psychologist yet, I work closely with our EAP cases and utilise my psychology-based knowledge for our company's marketing needs.
Tell us about your SLV.Global experience: My SLV.Global experience was unforgettable. Not only did it provide some crucial and invaluable psychology-related skills, but it challenged you to come out of your comfort zone and to embrace the beautiful and intriguing culture of Sri Lanka. The projects were diverse and allowed you to gain insight into how various mental health concerns may present.
Tell us what you gained from the placement: It really helped me to develop my CV. It is rather challenging to find hands-on psychology experience and so SLV.Global was an amazing opportunity. It assists you to develop new skills that are extremely relevant for the psychology field. To be patient, open-minded and optimistic - all things that are extremely valuable to me now, but will undoubtedly continue to be as I strive to become a registered psychologist in the near future.
