SLV.Global Placement: Teaching Placement July 2011

Current Role: 'Since returning from Sri Lanka I have expanded my career with thetrainline.com and currently work in the fraud and payments department as a fraud analyst.'

'I did plan to do my postgraduate degree in PE teaching however have decided against this and currently enjoying my current job role.'

'I currently coach goalkeepers for Fife elite goalkeeping on a voluntary basis whilst still being actively involved in sport, I'm a keen long distance runner and have completed two full and two half marathons since returning from Sri Lanka.'

Tell us about your SLV.Global experience: 'I joined the SLV team back in July 2011 and spent just over 2 months in Sri Lanka.'

'I mainly set up sports activities whilst incorporating English classes at Maharagama youth college working closely with the netball team and helping set up a football programme. I was also lucky to work on the special needs placement and at several of the children's development centres.'

Tell us what you gained from the placement: 'The experience of working in a busy education environment along with the high amount of teamwork and group tasks that were required whilst being with SLV heed me to promote skills I did not really have before joining SLV.'

'The importance of teamwork, a serious case of Wanderlust, lasting friendships, stories and experiences I will tell well into my older years and not to worry about the little things that we believe are big problems.'

'Overall it allowed me to fulfill a dream I had through my undergrad degree to coach and work abroad, going to Sri Lanka was (at the time) a little unconventional as a voluntary option and I wanted a unique experience and without doubt it gave me this and I'm so glad I saw Lucy's advert on gum tree over 4 years ago now!'
