SLV.Global Placement: Level One Mental Health Placement, November 2015

Current Role: 'I continued my job as a child care worker at Excell Center (a set of group homes for troubled youth boys) for a month. I then was offered a job as a behaviour interventionist II with the Central Valley Autism Project and accepted the job offer.'

Tell us about your SLV.Global experience: 'Sri Lanka was a wonderful and enlightening experience. I enjoyed all the hands on work as well as learning a different cultures way of living. It was definitely a very humbling experience as well, my heart will forever be touched by the lives we inpacted.'

Tell us what you gained from the placement: 'I was very proud to put SLV on my Resume and submit that to jobs! Learning to adapt to new situations and being okay with uncomfortable situations. It was a bit of a culture shock when arriving in Sri Lanka, but I enjoyed the adjustment and definitely use that here when going to new towns/cities near me. Also, while on projects you had to be okay being out of your comfort zone and being comfortable with the clients. You could not place a judgement based off of their situation or disability, they are people too and should be treated so. I use this thought process now at my current job and will also be implementing it at my new job as well.'
