Current Role: Masters Level Counsellor at a counselling center and as a Forensic Assessor at a forensic assessment firm.

Tell us about your SLV.Global experience: Sri Lanka was an incredible experience that gave me insight into international mental health issues and application. I was able to interact with service users first hand and participate in discussions with leading psychiatrists throughout the county.'

Tell us what you gained from the placement: 'I took so much from SLV.Global. I think it is important to see other countries and understand mental health issues from other perspectives. SLV.Global allowed me to understand Sri Lanka from the inside, by putting me in the communities and homes of the people of Sri Lanka. I think you gain useful skills to mental health like understanding cultural differences in treatment practices, working past language barriers and providing empathy and compassion. I also think you learn life skills like time and money management, figuring out how to conserve and utilize resources and other team building skills.'

'I think that the experience of SLV.Global on my resume shows that I am open minded and able to adapt in unfamiliar settings. It certainly shows that I am independent. I also believe the direct patient care opportunities that SLV.Global afforded me helps my resume. I am interested in international trauma counselling as a career and SLV.Global certainly will be valuable to me personally and on my CV as per that goal.'
