SLV Sri Lanka
Sonya joined SLV in 2017 as the Operations Manager in Sri Lanka and is responsible for supervising and planning all placements in the country.
Her first experience working abroad was in rural Tanzania where she was worked on food and water security programmes. After completing her studies in International Development and Anthropology, she moved to the UK for two years where she organised international trainings and events for young people on advocacy skills and sustainability.
Prior to joining SLV in Sri Lanka, Sonya’s role involved coordinating volunteers in a social service agency in Canada, where she worked with vulnerable populations including people living with addiction, mental health issues, poverty and homelessness. She has a deep interest in culture and health, and is excited to merge these interests through her work in Sri Lanka!
“My favourite part of my job is being so close to the heart of our work. I love that I get to see the impact SLV has both in the communities and projects we work in, and the transformative experience volunteers have while in country.”
