We're going Global with World Mental Health Day!

We've always been big supporters of World Mental Health Day and this year we're excited to announce that we will be observing it in a variety of ways in four different countries! The SLV.Global teams in London, Indonesia (Bali), Sri Lanka and India will all be dedicating some time to promote positive mental health in their respective destinations. You'll be able to keep up with us by searching the tag #SLVGLOBALWMHD on the 9th and 10th of October on both Instagram and Facebook.

World Mental Health Day, first observed on 10th of October in 1992 and initiated by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), is a day where people around the globe dedicate time to raising awareness for global mental health education and aim to reduce stigma by running activities and events to bring the world's focus to the topic of mental health. Each year there is a specific theme designed to highlight a particular area of mental health and this year's theme is Mental Health in the Workplace, which is actually pretty easy for us, as all our workplaces revolve around promoting positive mental health! :)

Scheduled Events

SLV.London - We're having a bakeoff! Yes Paul and Pru, look out, there'll be no soggy bottoms here! However, there will be plenty of tea consumed as we crown the winner before holding a discussion at London HQ with our team about encouraging openness about mental health in the workplace over our delicious creations. In the evening of the 10th we're all heading to the Let's Talk: World Mental Health Day event hosted by Mind at The Hoxton. Please join us for the talk and let us know that you're coming and we can meet up!

SLV.Bali - SLV.Bali Co-founder, Lee, will be on location with the team on the 10th for a sunrise yoga class led by team members, and yoga instructors, Bora and Beatrice. The benefits of yoga on mental health have been well documented. As noted in Psychology Today, "(y)oga increases body awareness, relieves stress, reduces muscle tension, strain, and inflammation, sharpens attention and concentration, and calms and centers the nervous system." We really understand the importance of these effects and as a result we begin each of our sessions in Bali with yoga.

SLV.SriLanka - The SLV.SriLanka Co-founders, Lucy and Yasintha, reunite in country for an awesome few days packed with interactive, fun events! To get prepared we'll be attending a concert at one of the psychiatric facilities where we work on the 9th of October. This was at the request of service users, as they love to sing and perform and often don't have the opportunity to do so with much regularity. According the to University of Florida, "music improves language skills, creativity and happiness, decreases anxiety, speeds healing, increases optimism and decreases pain." We'll be sponsoring the props and costumes and can't wait to be in the audience.

On World Mental Health Day, the 10th of October, the team will be holding an event to help reduce stigma in the community by speaking with the public about what we do, at SLV.Global, as well as selling the amazing handicrafts that service users create. There will also be more area-specific events like talent shows and talks with some of our professional partners.

SLV.India - Just for World Mental Health Day we're offering 10% off our Clinical and Ancient Psychology program in India. Join us in 2018 as we explore how modern Western techniques can be complimented by ancient Eastern practices to create a total treatment plan, for both mind and body, to promote positive mental health. Just follow this link and apply today!

We're all looking forward to our events and hope you choose to join us, if not in person then via social media, as we explore the many ways in which mental health awareness and education can be promoted, in the workplace and beyond, no matter where in the world you may be.
