Community Outreach in Sri Lanka

Here at SLV.Global we love a good competition! Our national teams in Sri Lanka were super busy on the run up to Christmas, using their inventiveness to do something a little different for some of our projects.

In Colombo, the national team built a herb garden at one of our community teaching projects, holding an opening ceremony to celebrate their achievements - the local council even came along. Each plant had a little label with a note of their medicinal properties on - very handy, especially as cold season is just around the corner!

By holding a special social where two team members had to complete the ice bucket challenge and have wet sponges thrown at them, our Kotte Crew raised 4300 rupees so they could get green fingers too. They planted veggies in the garden of one of our mental health projects. To cool down after all their hard work they had ice cream with service users and volunteers (Good work guys, we would have needed the ice bucket challenge after working in that heat).

Our national teams in Horana and Bandaragama also raised money (20,000 rupees to be exact) to buy t-shirts for the residents of one of our special needs projects (thanks to national team member Kelum for his donation). The t-shirts were given to the residents in a presentation ceremony which everyone enjoyed - way to go team!

Each initiative was judged and the best team were given a prize. You're all winners in our eyes, team!
