Alleppy, sometimes known as the ‘Venice of the East’ is home to canals, backwaters and beaches. Found in the state of Kerala, it is home to over a thousand houseboats and Alleppy is most famous for it’s charming houseboat cruises through the Kerala backwaters. Just outside of the city you'll find the longest lake in India, Vembanad, which the famous backwaters flow into.
The inner city is bustling and busy but heading outwards from here along the backwaters you'll find quieter villages, greenery and an abundance of rice paddies. The city hosts a famous 19th century lighthouse as well as an ancient hindu temple.
