Our university partnerships grow in number each year and we're so proud of how many exceptional educational institutions from around the globe support the work we do by sending their students on our placements to participate in mental health volunteering as part of a placement year, for course credit, or simply to gain practical experience.
We also partner with incredible social and government initiatives like NCS The Challenge, who run leadership programmes for young people across the UK. Their aim is to bring together schools, community organisations, businesses and individuals to build a stronger and more cohesive society. Many team leaders who run programmes at NCS The Challenge then join us on our mental health placements and vice versa to gain transferrable skills to increase future employment prospects in mental health and social care.
All of our SLVeterans are former SLV.Global volunteers who have utilised the experience, which they gained mental health volunteering with us, in different ways to help further their careers and/or progress in their studies. We're so proud of all of our past team members and are consistently inspired by what they achieve.
Here you can take a look at some of what our former team members have been up to since their placement concluded. If you were on our team before and want to showcase your achievements since please get in touch with Aurora on [email protected] and we'll happily add you to this prestigious group of SLVIPs!
Being a mental health organisation, you can probably guess where our passion lies. Our blogs aim to look further at mental health, both globally and locally, and provide insight and information for our volunteers as well as anyone with a general interest in global mental health.

What's a Mental Health Placement?
We're glad you asked! Our Mental Health Placements all involve mental health volunteering with communities abroad. So...what's mental health volunteering? Mental health volunteering is using the skills you've gained as a psychology student or graduate to promote positive mental health in communities where the resources for those with mental health concerns and specific needs may be lacking.
All of our Mental Health Placements abroad involve practical, hands-on work with diverse client groups, led fully by volunteers and assisted by our team. So if you're looking to gain valuable experience in the sector, which can help to boost your CV and employment opportunities, this is the opportunity for you.
Monday to Friday you'll be busy facilitating daily, therapeutic activity sessions to increase overall well-being for clients in a variety of settings. From psychiatric facilities to classrooms, you'll experience projects as diverse as the service users you'll work with all while being completely submersed in a vibrant, exciting new culture.
What about weekends? Your weekends are free to spend exploring your stunning surroundings. Fancy lounging on a white sand beach? How about going on safari and scoping out elephants and leopards? Want to climb a volcano? All of this and more is available to experience on our Mental Health Placements. It's certainly not a holiday, but it does look like one at times.
